We Cannot Tell You Where We Kept Chibok Girls Now- Army

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has stated that the military has no plans to disclose the location of the remaining Chibok girls yet to be rescued or released by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The acting director of Defence Information at the Defence Headquarters, Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar said:

“Neither the military nor any security agency will give information on the Chibok girls in order not to jeopardise their safety.” Brig-Gen Abubakar also stated that Boko Haram had essentially been destroyed and its “members in disarray.”

He added that it had now become impossible for the islamist sect to regroup after its members were chased from the Sambisa forest that was the bastion of the group for many years.

Over 200 pupils of Chibok Secondary School were abducted from their school in Borno State in April 2014. A few of the girls managed to escape from the terrorists while the group released 21 of them in September 2016 following prolonged negotiations.

He said: “We need ourselves for this great country to move forward. We have responsibility to protect the lives of innocent citizens. It is only when we do that that we can move the country away from crisis.

“Our duty as military is to ensure total peace not only in the Niger Delta, but in all areas where we have operations.”
